When i bring any piece of equipment home, no matter how old or new, (except cars) i change the oil and put 15w40 Rotella T in it.
I've never had any problems with any thing i've put this oil in, gas or diesel. My oldest tractor is a 1939 IH-A industrial. My newest is a 1998 Agco Allis. I have a number of old tractors, and all are treated the same way.
I won't use the latest-greatest "car" oil in anything but my cars, as they are putting too much gas saveing additives in them these days. Rotella is formulated for equipment, not cars.
