Generally, the solution to slow cranking is to find the loose connection or undersized cable. It might also be possible that the battery isn't in the best shape. Checking the cables and connections is the cheapest thing to do first. Remember that 6v systems should have heavier cables than 12v systems do. The 8v battery will help with the cranking speed but will also bring its own issues. You really ought to add a ballast resistor to prevent the resulting higher ignition primary current from damaging the coil and/or points. If you have lights on the tractor, the higher voltage will dramatically shorten the life of the bulbs.
