I can't speak for a lot of others, but since I turned 50 I've had some health issues, and I simply can't do a lot of the physical labor I did when I was younger. Those jobs are out there still, but I simply can't do a lot of them. But I'm considered healthy enough to do my "regular" job in an industry where jobs have dried up, so I don't qualify for disability.
It's not that I think I'm too good to do some kinds of jobs; it's just that I'm no longer able to do them well enough to keep a job in the more physical lines of work.
