He once told me about a trick they used to get the most out of the brakes when relining them. After putting everything back together, loosen the backing plate bolts enuf so the backplates can slide a little. Drive the tractor forward and stop it quickly by standing right on the pedals. While it is stopped and you're still maintaining full pressure on the brakes have someone else retighten the backing plate bolts. He claimed that this "centered" the shoe assemblies in the drums and gave optimum shoe to drum contact. Anybody else ever hear of this?
