This varies on the size of the auction. Small dispersal sales will usually have a 10% commission on all items excepting land and buildings. A large sale or a grouped consignment sale will have a commission of 10% on the first $500 and a declining rate, usually 5%, on large ticket items. Land and buildings, based on the amount of advertising, usually are sold for 5% commission. Small household auctions fees are typically 20% including all advertising and sometimes they also charge a buyers fee up to 10%. These are mostly attended by the uninformed that are seeking to buy something with unrecognized high value. You can imagine who comes out the winner. I only attend absolute auctions otherwise you are attending a fixed price sale and you are probably better off going to the dealer.
