As I said in the other posts, we leave the our big black snakes alone. We have killed a couple accidentally when cutting the hay field, but never on purpose.
Only snakes we deliberately kill are ones that can and will hurt us - water moccasins and copperheads.
For those of you who have never encountered a moccasin, they are EXTREMELY aggressive. Very nasty attitude. They will chase you and/or swim across the pond to get at you, will drop out of a tree to join you in your boat. You don't fool around with them, you kill them.
We've never seen a rattler at our place, but if we do, will dispose of it if possible.
