Ken: Regarding engines with buildup in the rocker covers; that is most likely due to cold starts and cold running conditions. If the engine never gets warm, how can the oil rid itself of the moisture buildup that will lead to SLUDGE? Engines that are run long distances or are kept warm will exhibit very little wear. Talk to an over-the-road trucker. Many of those engines will go 500,000+ miles without even thinking about it. The engine is warm and seldom shut down plus the oil is top quality. I have purchased sales-person's car with 50,000 miles put on in one (1) year's time and had little or no problems. The "Little Old Lady's" car that was driven 5 blocks for groceries once a week may look nice but the engine is most likely going to need much help. The key to the antifreeze and oil situation is Preventative Maintenance. So, however you monitor the condition of oil or coolant, change it sooner rather than later. $$ well spent.
