Don't use oven cleaner on Aluminum parts....it eats em up. I don't like sandblasting, unless the parts are far away from the motor/transmission, etc. that sand gets everywhere. I use a wire brush on an old hand drill, and it does real good. Then I wash the parts in dishwashing detergent, and then I rinse real good. Then I let the parts dry quickly in front of the salamander heater..... Finally, I wipe the parts down with Ospho (actually I use a version of the stuff available from NAPA stores....13 bucks for a quart...it lasts a long time). finally, I wipe everything down with rubbing alchohol before painting....I've done a few tractors this way with no adhesion problems. One mistake I did make once was to prime the paint with a primer first, and then sand it real smooth. this was on a working tractor....what happenned is that everytime the paint chips, I see the color of that primer.....I think th Ospho is good enough for prep on working parts. Of course the hood and fenders I did the primer/ spot glaze/primer/ paint/ clear coat route. Take Care Steve
