I make my living as a Technology Consultant for the local school system. We got bamboozled by the price on inkjet printers too. Now we're sorry. They sell the printers at a loss because they KNOW they're going to KILL on supplies. A $150 inkjet printer costs about 17-20 cents per page in black-and-white text, and upwards of 40 cents per page for full coverage color. A $400 laser printer costs less than 2 cents per page, and will last much longer. These figures were generated using OEM cartriges. I have never had anything but problems using non-OEM cartridges in high-use inkjets, but you may not have the problems I do on your home use machine. I HAVE had good luck with refilled toner cartridges for laser printers. Unless you REALLY need color, the laser printer is MUCH more cost-effective over the life of the machine.
