i had the same problem , the little bushy tailed rats ate the wiring on 2 trucks and the air filter off 3, got me a redbone coonhound, 3 years ago when he was about 4 he took a liking to squirrels, and disposed of 26 in one summer 3 years without a chewed wire or air filter now, the hound still checks out the trucks every day the squirrels still exist in the sourounding area but not around the house must have learned this place isnt the best to take up housekeeping
