Fords can't really be beat as far as availability and the size of land you have. I would stick to something that had either a 3 point or some kind of lift on the back. Much more versatile. Around here 1-2000 will have you a running N and usually with some attachments. A wd or wd45 come to mind as well. Letter series are great tractors but don't have a 3 point. You can get one for under 800 bucks and usually used for 2-400. Also look for something with a loader. Very very handy.
I have an M and a trip bucket loader and have just shy of 1 acre. It's too big for me here at a total investment of around $300 including purchase price and parts to make it useable again it fit the bill nicely. Ford and Farmall are my vote. Plentiful with lots of parts availablitly. 3rd would be an Allis and 4th JD and 5th Case. JD and Case will be pricey to work on.
