The reason that a Calcium Chloride solution is so much heavier than a glycol solution is that CaCl doesn't appreciably add to the volume of the solution when it's added to water. So the more CaCl you add, the heavier the solution gets, while the volume stays the same. On the other hand, the more glycol you add, the volume of the solution increases by the same amount.
