I may be wrong on this but I think the 504 International and Farmall Tractors replaced the 340 series tractors. The 340 followed the 60 series[460-560-660]into production. The 504 Series followed the 06 series [706-806-1206] series into production.That said I "think" the 06's & the 504's went into production about 1966-67.Why your propane tank is stamped 1961 I don't have a clue.Maybe your Tractor was converted with parts from an older unit,maybe the tank was in storage a long time before being needed.Advertising pictures of the 504 pulling a 4/14" #60 Plow are not representative of the tractors ability. It was basically a 3/14" Plow tractor on most midwest farms.The 504 was an excellent little tractor on a 7' Sickle Mower cutting hay,raking hay,running a baler,pulling wagons etc.and the International model made a good loader tractor or one to pull a 6' brush cutter with.Many,many Jobs these Tractors were capable of doing and doing in class .JH
