I commute 130 miles each day so having a comfortable and dependable car is a must for me. I try to get about 300,000 miles before I send it to the salvage yards.
Without a doubt, Buicks have been the best. I now drive a 02 Century with a 6 cylinder engine. I average 29-32 MPG regularly. They are dependable with the normal amount of repairs needed.
Any GM with a 6 cylinder will do you well, decent mileage and longevity.
Best of all is the comfort. If I"m going to be in it for 2 or more hours a day, I"m willing to sacrifice a couple MPG"s for comfort and safety.
