For an expatriate living in Deutschland, I'd think you would have easy access to some of the finest cutlery made worldwide. I go out of my way to find Boker Tree Brand or Hen&Rooster (Bertram) knives, both Soligen made, and I've never left the States.
Lots of folks like their Bucks, but they're too difficult to sharpen.....a case where the blades are too damned hard. The wife and kids bought me a large, new Case knife...made like a Buck Folder, for my 51st. While I am sure it is a quality instrument, it is too damned heavy and clumsy...like a Buck folder. I could pry the brass ends off and lighten it by about 2 pounds....hehe! I think they are garish looking... sorta like something an Arab tribesman would carry.....a miniature scimitar. Yuck! Of course, I told the kids thank you very much, told them it was the very best knife I had ever seen, and promptly hid it in a drawer:).
