Hi John I use tractors for 40 years I should not have courage to design and fix a 3 point hitch. Why reinvent the wheel. Dependig of money available I suggest at least a MF 65 or 165 preferably diesel the gas model is gas hungry on hard works. Under 3000 hours of operation. You will have live hydraulics position control - live PTO - power steering- differential lock - slide adjutable rear wheels width. If little more money is available you can add loader - heated/conditionned cab. Fords - John Deere and other poular tractors same size and 1960 and after with above mentionned specs are good too. I hope you're kidding when you mention a plow for your pick-up ! You can have a good "tractor plow for $100-$ 200 or less. If you are new to farming you will have plently to learn farming. Farming and tractoring is a life long experience. I suggest you begin with a ready to use good tractor. Then you will have time for the rest. It is my humble opinion Good luck Joe Ferguson
