Not too surprising..... People are hired for a certain job and get performance evaluations on that job. Put yourself in the place of the one hired and you won't want to answer for joe blow's mistake while he filled in for you. Put yourself in joe blow's place (sad but too often true) why would you do someone elses job and let them get the recognition? That's what unions, lawyers, and crooked supervisors do for you.
Funny but almost true joke here is 3 guys working on a landscape project, one was to dig the hole, one to set the tree, and the 3rd to cover, tamp, and water. They'd been making nice progress, so the boss went to another project. When he came back 2 days later, there was a bunch of fresh mounds where the trees were supposed to be. Caught up with the crew and a guy was digging and another was filling, tamping, and watering. Asked WTF, and they told him the tree guy hurt his back and would be out for a week.
