My handgun permit expires near the end of JUNE, 2009, so it hasn't lapsed. I was applying for a renewal now so that, hopefully, it WON'T lapse.
I just think it's absurd that there was NOT ONE POLICE OFFICER on the premises qualified to fingerprint me, check my ID, or to be trusted taking my money.
The sheriff himself has his hands full, having recently suffered a heart attach AFTER being charged with sectual harassment of two employees in federal court...charges that the federal EEOC says have enough basis to go forward. I've written the local newspaper several times to ask if there's some mechanism for the taxpayers to seek reimbursement from the sheriff, should the county have to pay out damages on the sheriff's behalf...but the paper won't even print my letter, much less answer the question. [I'm not saying the sheriff's guilty; I don't know enough of the facts to make that judgement.]
