Here where I am in New York I would say Deere is predominant with Case IH making a noticeable presence. I will agree with those who say the presence of a strong dealer (regardless of make) dictates the ratio of brands in an given area. There are parts of New York where you still see a lot of Allis Chalmers running around even though they have not been made since 1985 (I am not counting any of the successors with orange paint, they are few in numbers) due to strong dealers for that line years ago. And so it is for any of the colors depending where you go. I think Deere having a strong financial division has insured they will have sizable market share for years to come. I don't know that I agree with the notion that when a popular dealer closes, that the affiliated manufacturer always suffers greatly. Deere saw a handful of popular dealers close from the early 1980's to the early 1990's here and I would say they are just as strong now as they were before. I think if you go out on travel around some you will see each make strong in a given area.
