First, major difference in hemp and marijuana. Industrial hemp has no or very little THC(the part that makes you high, sort of like caffeine or nicotine). The trace amounts are so minute that you'd have to smoke a truck load just to get a headache. But this isn;t the stuff they are talking about legalizing and taxing, although it may fall under the law. Now industrial hemp has a lot of uses, ropes, fibers(cloths and such), soaps, and other stuff. Here in Kentucky there was big talk a few years back about it replacing tobacco as a big time cash crop. But realistically, as far as profit per acre, that could never happen as it's probably on par with corn as far as profits are concerned.
Now as far as weed is concerned, I've never used it, but been around plenty of people who have/were/are using it. Most of the time it just makes them lazy and hungry. On occasion, you get a paranoid person. And I know plenty of people who smoke it and hold down regular jobs...people that I wouldn't call lazy or social bums. The thing is, the two guys made mention of were real winners before the joint. If they didn't have it, they'd have had some pills, a case ol' milwaukee's beast, or something. People who just don't care, just don't care. Truth is, as far as the science goes, it's less addictive than tobacco or alcohol, but probably more habit forming, if that makes any sense. I say tax it, just as high as tobacco, and you won't have a problem anyway.
