The older M-B center rear view mirrors are snapped into place and snap out as well. Just takes a good solid TUG to pop it out and a good solid SHOVE to reseat it. This was true for the 116,117 and 123 chassis cars. The mirror is retained by a dual spring loaded pointed pin setup I worked on them until 1980 so cannot tell you for a fact that an '84 is that way, But knowing the Krauts they Still have not changed it!
