That's OK. I have found nickle rod works best and you have to preheat it then after you weld it you have to keep it warm so it cools slowly. It's hard to tell someone how hot to get it but you don't want it red hot, something just below that. Remember it is hot so you won't need to have your welder turned up as much. Welding exhaust parts is difficult because the heat over time does something to the metal. Be sure to grind down to good metal. Hope this helps, good luck.
