I had a Chevy pickup with a miss for the first minute or two at first startup in the morning. A textbook example of failing spark plugs. Fat and dumb, I went to Walmart. Walmart used to sell all three, AC, Champion, and Autolite. When I got to Walmart, all they had was Autolite, so I bought a set of Autolites and installed them The pickup then ran worse all the time.
I went to NAPA and bought a set of the proper AC plugs and solved my problem. While I was at NAPA, I mentioned the problem I had with Autolite from Walmart. The parts man told me if I'd bought the Autolites at NAPA they would have been OK, it's just the ones from Walmart that are defective.
Adding it up, I deduced Walmart must have demanded price concessions on spark plugs until AC and Champion refused to deal with them. Then, apparently, Autolite caved and fed Walmart junk just to meet the price Walmart wanted.
I did get a refund from Walmart for the Autolites.
