1948 Case Tractor

I need some help....I have been trying to get an old 1948 Case Tractor up and running....I have been able to get it runnng and it sounds like the timing is set good...but when I am trying to pull the tractor up our steep driveway to grade it out...I have no pulling power then it starts to pop and sounds as if out of timing..I have adjusted the timing up to 6 notches in bothe directions, and that does not help it...any suggestions would be appreciated...Thanks in Advance
