Some tire questions.

I noticed while looking through my JD B manual that tires are a lot different now than they were then. Why have they changed? I saw some where the lugs met in the middle, others the lugs were at a different angle. Any idea why or when the change took place? Also is there any place where you can get the old style tires? If so where? Thanks, Karl
