Pretty good question for an old tractor page. Think a little older! Steam tractors! Steam cars! Anything that will burn can be used for power! If you have the right burner you can use: gasoline, kerosene, oil, soy oil, coal, wood, methanol, ethanol, propane, natural gas, garbage, corn stalks, used computers, etc. And don't think I mean the huge old steam tractors we usually see at shows. Stanley, Doble and White all had excellent steam cars that could hit 70 mph in the teens and 20's! They used a flash boiler and were ready to run in 15-30 seconds. I believe it was a Ryan light steam tractor that that had the same type of flash boiler as the above cars, which almost made production. The internal combustion engine gained a foothold though, and now pretty much the whole world runs on gasoline and diesel. As with most problems, nothing is done to solve them until it gets bad enough. Imagine the huge amount of industrial retooling and infrastructure change just to convert our current engines to run on ethanol! Everything would probably stay the same (except for inflated prices of most consumer goods) even if gasoline in the US went over $5 a gallon! But when you can't get it at the pump? When the trucks stop rolling? Planes stop flying? Then alternative fuels/technology will have an inroad. Until then, the vested interests, oil companies, etc. will keep supplying, we citizens will keep buying.

In any case, you have no idea what the make and/or model is. For awhile perhaps it doesn't really matter. Especially if it runs! But pretty soon you'll probably need to tinker with it a bit and maybe buy a part or too. Having a manual is nice. But how does one go about dete
