I don't think a 4440 would handle a 12 row planter very well at all.
Out here (West Texas), you can find a 4840 for less money generally than a comparable 4440 - not sure why... But a 4840 would be much better suited to 12 row equipment...
Dad has a 4440, a 4850 & we have 2 4840's. We use a 12 row JD vacuum planter and usually use the 4850 on it.
