Carbon build up like you find on valve stems and valve heads. The core shift when the manifold was cast caused the side wall to be paper thin on one side. It had a carbon filled hole in the side about the size of a pencil eracer. I chipped some of the carbon out and will take another picture. It will show just how thin the wall was.
