Hello All, and thanks in advance for any info you can give me. I am a new "old" tractor owner -- John Deere Model AW of 1949 vintage. All I know about this machine comes from some hard experiences over the last few months. Please excuse my ignorance. Two questions, please: 1. Where do you go to find original manufacturer information on a specific tractor? Something like I've read in articles -- "this tractor came out of the factory on June 12, 1936 destined for Kearney Nebraska." 2. On my JD Model A, with just 2 spark plugs, can you use a timing light to "time" this machine? ... And ... How would you hook up the timing light and where would you find timing marks? Appreciate your help.

12-Volt Conversions for 4-Cylinder Ford 2000 & 4000 Tractors - by Tommy Duvall. After two summers of having to park my old 1964 model 4000 gas 4 cyl. on a hill just in case the 6 volt system, for whatever reason, would not crank her, I decided to try the 12 volt conversion. After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
