You also need to check the wiring diagram for a voltage regulator in the guage circuit.If it is a mechanical type (it should be for that vintage) you will have no problem ,but just in case it is a solid state type (diode) you will have to modify the regulator. Also if there are any permanent magnet electrical motors ( blower fans,wiper,etc.) they will run in the reverse direction.
