I have taken it for 4 years with no problem. If you are prone to the gout you don't want to take it with the diuretic because it will increase the frequency of a gout attach, I know from experiance.
My wife took it for a while and got the cough that is associated with it. The doctor took her off of it and has tried 3 other blood preasure meds and can't get rid of the cough for some reason.
