Doug, when my dad bought our farm, it only had 40 acres to start with. The first tractor he purchased to work it was a 1968 Ford 5000. Great machine! Four cylinder diesel, 8F/2R, 60ish HP, dual hydraulics (we added the second), power steering, 540 PTO,...That and a '53 NAA are the only tractors he held onto after he retired (forced) from farming in 1987. Maybe you could find one kicking around for a reasonable price, but stay away from the select-o-speed transmission (they were garbage).
