Komatsu IHC 284 w/ Mazda M4-71G 4cyl. engine did not start this spring. No spark. Replaced plugs, wires, cap, rotor & points. Started & ran fine. OK for about 2 months. Owner ran out of gas. Filled tank, ran lousy. Ran awhile and smoothed out. About 2-3 weeks passed, tractor stopped running. Fuel in tank. Got it started, mowed for about 20 minutes, gradually lost power, and began to cut out. Caught it with the choke, and got it back to the shed. Pulled top of carb, cleaned considerable rust from float chamber. Sprayed out passages I could get to with carb cleaner. Accelerator pump was sticking in the bore. Cleaned out bore, installed new accelerator pump. Removed rust from sediment bowl. Ran great. 3 weeks passed, tractor stopped running. Hard starting, ran OK for about 10 minutes & died. Pulled tank & carb off for a thorough cleaning. Got considerable rust out of tank. Very little debris in sediment bowl. Carb float chamber still clean. Completely dis-assembled carb and cleaned, noting position of mixture screw, and float. Assembled carb, dried tank, put tractor together. Put on new fuel lines & filter.Cranked until air cleared of lines & started. Ran good for a few minutes & died out. Would re-start breifly & die out. Took half hour for supper, started tractor & ran fine, for about 5 minutes & died out. Re-started & died out. Suspected fuel pump. Bypassed pump, enough fuel in tank to gravity feed. Same results. Gave up for 2 days. Tried again. Hard starting & dying out. After 3 or 4 tries, engine caught, ran great and mowed for 2 hours until I shut it off. Re-started easily several times after. What the H--- is going on? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Today's Featured Article - History of the Nuffield Tractor - by Anthony West. The Nuffield tractor story started in early 1945. The British government still reeling from the effects of the war on the economy, approached the Nuffield organization to see if they would design and build an "ALL NEW" British built wheeled tractor, suitable for both British and world farming. ...
