Sam - I have the identical problem with a Super M. Makes a metallic rap when idling that goes away at about 1/4 throttle and above. Noise also goes away at idle when the hydraulic pump is loaded by turning the wheel (tractor has power steering) or activating the 4-way valve. Suspect noise is excessive end play in the camshaft. Loading the hydraulic pump (driven off the cam gear) forces and holds the cam to one end of it's travel which stops the knocking. Hoping to get inside the motor and fix it before the weather turns cold here.
