I'm a small contractor who rents specialized tools on occasion. Concrete grinders, floor sanders, sheet rock lifts, post hole diggers etc. Rental has always allowed me to get the job done on the customers nickel and not my own. It's a good way to go for occasional use. As a brother, friend to women, all round good guy and homeowner I've had reason to rent Bobcats several times over the years and 2 years ago a mini excavator to dig these footings on my own house. Rental has been money well spent. For excavator stuff there's an added bonus in that you tell your buddies that you're renting it on Saturday and they'll be over - usually with the beer for afterwards - wanting to get a little seat time on it. You pay your occasional dues to the gang and get your footings dug too.
