Mark, In 1979 there was theoretical, statistical, and anecdotal evidence that we were about to enter a new ice age. Any study of weather patterns/ tree rings/ sedimentary formations show mother nature flucuates. Thousands of years ago Michigan was under a glacier, what man influenced global warming uncovered it. After one of the coldest/snowiest winters in decades we now are hearing "climate change" as opposed to global warming. Unless BILLIONS of people in China & India change their carbon habits a couple million in California won't have any effect.
