I usually don't use anything. As long as you don't try sliding or spinning the tires it works pretty good. If I'm having to do alot of short turning I take 4 short rubber tarp straps and place them spaced equal through the rim slots from side to side into the side walls. Unless you are in mud or something that will pull them away from the real tire they just hang on and buffer the stobs and thorns. The rear tires won't even try to run off, just the front ones will from the slide traction in short turns.
