Put a few long established fallow, what I'd consider "sod" fields to dirt... Most recently with a 14" 1 bottom equipped Super A and the 560D w/ 412 16"... Done a number of 30+ year old well compacted yards for gardens and a few well established fallowed pastures... 2nd Gear will work her... My experience has been somewhere between the 2 photos you posted... one solid root mass but not nearly that large a slice at a time... Turns as one solid slab... no break-up.
That bottom photo, I'll give it to you... looks like some really fun crap... Actually I'd hate to break it down after plowing... Not sure if my kidneys could take it...
