Usually an ID# either from the unit to keep track of maintenance etc. Or for the place they were stored before sale or preped for sale. For instance, IL NG turned in trucks from different armories across the State and assigned each unit a letter of the alphabet and they preped/marked the trucks accordingly (9N being the 9th truck preped by the unit designated N). Boy....did I ever hate them things................. Probably a good truck if you strip the extra junk that made it a military vehicle (extra alternator, radio mounts, etc). Getting rid of that nasty a$$ diesel motor and putting in a gasser would probably work wonders for it. Never saw one rust in the years that I fooled with them though.
