half/track tire chains

Well I went and bought a set of half-tracks on speculation at an auction. Paid $60 after thinking for about a minute that I was gonna getem for $15

Let's say...maybe assume...that I never cobble up the idlers and manage to fit these tracks to my tractor...I was wondering if anyone has ever used an old halftrack in place of tire chains?
