I don't see your pic so I'm not sure what spring you're dealing with... but in general, when I'm working on drum brakes on trucks, I just use a good comfortable size ViseGrip that I can get a grip on. Lock it on and pull. Two hands if necessary. I never had much luck using 'proper' brake spring tools.
