We were still using Bon Ami in our diesel shop 20-30 years ago - for problem engines with hard rings that didn't want to seat.
Did it really work? I can't say for sure. It was basically a remedy the "old timers" swore by, and we younger guys "swore at." They be revving up the diesel engines, inside the shop, full-bore, and dumping Bom Ami down the air-intake - with no hoses to route the exhaust outside. Got pretty foggy inside. OSHA would of had a fit if they'd ever seen it.
