Correct on Chev 265 V8 intro in Fall 1954 as 1955 option in Chev.
Engine on stand in picture appears to be an Olds V8 which did come out in 1949 as did Cadillac OHV V8....both looked very similiar but valve covers on Olds had the stamping ribs running from intake toward exhaust like this picture seems to show.
