When my father was working at Westinghouse during it's hay day in the 50s and 60s, He held 5 patents for smaller, more efficient Transformers and tap changers. He has told me that making their patents solid, they send big bucks and awarded dad $5000 for each one. The transformers are the ones that are still mounted on most telephone poles around most cities today.
