Black smoke in a gas engine is running rich. If the redneck gas tank was rusty inside and you had no filter on the gas line to the carb, chances are good that you got gunk into the needle and seat and the needle is stuck open in the carb. The white smoke and spray..dunno but I'd check the needle and seat.
