I built a cabin a few years back, not quite the same critter as a 4000 sf house. There are lots of pros and cons to log construction. All the cons can be overcome if properly prepared for before starting construction. Pros include insulation value of logs. My maintenece has not been that bad, actually less than my frame constructed home. I have heard some horror stories about some of the kits out there so my recommendation is to research and learn all you can about a company and their designs then contact some of their customers who have been in the homes for at least 5 years.
