they fell out as soon as they opened or as soon thereafter as wind or something dislodged them. The seeds or cones do not have to be heated. Does not take a forest fire to make them grow altho a fire may clear the ground & make it easier for them to get established. Plenty of good college text books on the subject, maybe used ones from nearby college of forestry. Your state forest tree nursery could also help. This info is for Eastern White Pine tho both will grow in your state. Western white pine is not native to MN.
