Mike, Harvey is right, you need line voltage and telephone protection. We have an office full of computers and protect all of them with APC "surge arrests". See http://www.apcc.com. The part # we buy is "Net7T". It protects 7 plugs and one phone line. They offer a $25,000 guarantee against your downstream equipment being in any way damaged. I can vouch for their guarantee. We had a lightning strike hear the house that came in on the phone line and destroyed all of our surge arrests (they are designed to die before allowing any current to get through) but nothing downstream was affected. And APC sent us all new ones, free of charge! Retail is around $60 but you can find them for less: you might want to try the same place we get ours, http://www.onvia.com/usa/products/index.cfm?CategoryID=51&SortBy=manufacturer By the way, we live on the shores of Lake Superior in extreme northern Wisconsin. We don't get a lot of bad storms but when we get one, they can be fierce.
