Dale: I guess there must be some difference but I've often swapped with no difference to be seen. Once I ran a 6 volt tractor for quite some time and was looking at the coil and it was imprinted with '12 volt' on the coil metal case, so even it worked fine. Guess there must be a difference though between different coils of the same voltage, and for sure between a 6 & 12 volt coil.
