I know what you're saying. I don't believe there has ever been anything built that was any better for planting and laying by the corn and cotton crops than an N was. It was so light and quick you could get around good and plant right if you could get it to run smooth enough to get by with. I would trade out work with neighbors and get my fields ready then I could handle the planting and all ok. They would turn and disc my place for me and I would plant their place. I bought a new 2 row Covington planter and boy was I something. You know that's something that never happens around here anymore. Nobody swaps out work. The way we did it worked like you had all kinds of equipment and the hired help to run it. Whoever's place you were workings wife would fix a dinner time meal fit for a King. Sometimes we would just get all the wives together and have supper and all at the same farm. The wimmin folks would cook or quilt or do some canning. That's a part of Americana that I sorely miss.
